Why it’s important to declare your Mission and Values to your customers.

Last week we spoke about creating your Mission, Vision and Values. This week I want to speak to you about why you should shout them from the rooftops!


Now this may be a scary thing to do. After all, it’s often very personal to you and it can seem quite vulnerable to do this, but I want to encourage you to do just that.



What NOT to share.

Now, when I say share them, you’ll notice that I’m not including your Vision in this. Your Vision is definitely a personal thing, between you and your team and/or stakeholders.

It holds details of your goals for your business and, especially your financial goals, are not always things that we want others to see.

That’s not to say you should be ashamed of wanting more or having high expectations, this is something you should definitely do to help you move your business forward. It’s also not set in stone that you shouldn’t declare them, but usually, this is private.


Why a Mission Statement and Core Values are so important.

I covered this in my blog last week (if you haven’t read it, pop over to take a look here, so I’m not going to go into detail again, but I can’t stress enough how important it is.

Your Mission Statement is your roadmap - it is your direction to the people you want to help and your instructions of how you are going to achieve that.

Your Vision Statement is your milestone, your direction towards your goal. You know where you’re headed with your mission, but you want to make sure that you’re on the right track by hitting the targets you have set for yourself.

And your Core Values are your guide to who is a good fit and who isn’t. It will help you weed out the time-wasters and those with opposing values to you.


Why it’s important to share your Mission.

As I’ve said above, your mission is your roadmap to who you want to help and how. It’s a statement that says, “I’m here, I’m going to help X to achieve Y by doing Z”

By putting that out there, you can attract lots of X’s, because they can see that you will help them to achieve their Y’s and how you are going to do it.

It can be really powerful and can set you apart from your competition. People will know you mean business, you’ve declared what your intentions are and you’re going to do it!

It also allows you to focus on one type of business instead of being everything to everybody.

Knowing your ‘X’s, your niche, means that you can easily find your target audience, you know where they are, what kind of things they do and how is the best way to reach them.

Your marketing will be aimed solely at them, you will be driving towards them instead of being pulled this way and that to people you are not happy serving.

And the best thing of all? They will want to be your clients as they will see your passion for what you want to do.


The same goes for your Values.

By sharing what you hold dear to you, what you stand for, will also attract like-minded people to you.

By talking about your 5 key values, people will begin to know you. They will know for instance that you can’t tolerate liars if one of your key values is honesty. They will know that you are always going to be looking out for an answer to what they need if another value is Constant Learning.

When they know this about you, they will see that you are like them, you have the same or similar values and they will want to work with you. Likewise, anyone who isn’t honest will think that you will find them out and will not want to work with you (this isn’t always true obviously, but in general, people look for likeminded souls to bond with).
